What to do and see in the area

The beautiful port of La Rochelle is only 30 mins away and then over the ‘bridge’ the amazing island of Ré (Ile de Ré) offers superb sea food restaurants and great beaches. There are 100 kms of award winning sunshiney beaches in the Vendée.

Maillezais offers a range of local amenities including a small supermarket, bakers, butchers, pharmacy, tabac, post office, tourist information, English speaking doctor, café, bars and restaurants all within easy walking distance.

Local daily markets and village festivals, Aquarium at La Rochelle, horse riding, fishing, golf courses, go-karting, wine tasting, sandy beaches and nature reserves, 70 kms of traffic free cycle path following the region's waterways.

It is also a port into 'La Venise Verte’ where you can hire a barque and explore the region's verdant waterways.

The renaissance town of Fontenay le Comte and the closest hyper market are 10 minutes away,with a good market every Saturday morning. The forest of Mervent is 15 minutes away and offers great walking, mountain biking and water sports. Futuroscope theme park is an hour away at Poitiers. Puy de Fou chateau and theme park is approx 40 minutes away.
